What you will learn

You will gain a deep understanding of how to manage legal and ethical obligations while actively promoting community participation for those you support. By focusing on healthy body systems and person-centred behaviour supports, you will learn the generalised skills required to provide meaningful assistance to individuals with diverse needs in a real-world environment.
Course Description
Learn the skills and knowledge required to work effectively in community settings and peoples’ homes, who provide support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. The role of workers is to promote a person-centred approach, work according to and may contribute to an individualised plan, and work without direct supervision. People in this role may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.

Entry Requirements & Enrolment Information
Pre-Requisites
● Completion of: CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
OR
● Completion of: CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
OR
● Completion of: CHC30408 Certificate III in Disability ● PLUS the CHCSS00125 Entry to Certificate IV in Disability Support Skill Set
Online Learning
Students will be required to complete their theory modules through their individual student portal. Students are required to dedicate approximately 5 hours per week, completing the pre-reading materials in the LMS before attending the face-to-face sessions.
LLND Test
Participants are required to complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) skills assessment to finalise their enrolment into the course. The required ACSF levels for workers in this industry are:
● Learning – Level 4
● Reading – Level 4
● Writing – Level 4
● Oral Communication – Level 4
● Numeracy – Level 3
Our Foundation Skills Support person can discuss ways in which we can work towards uplifting your learning, reading, writing, oral communication and numeracy levels into a personalised plan.
RPL and CT
Participants are welcome to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT) prior to approving your individual training plan. Refer to the student handbook for further information on the application process.
Physical
● Visual Monitoring – Identifying indicators of changes in body systems and manifestations of health problems.
● Auditory & Verbal – Discussing goals with families and interpreting health terminology with professionals.
● Physical Coordination – Coordinating the delivery of plans for people with complex or special support needs.
● Manual Dexterity – Documenting use of restrictive practices and reporting changes in behavior.
● Mobility & Stamina – Performing support in varied disability contexts and simulated environments.
● Sensory Detection – Recognising signs of oral pain and skin integrity issues like pressure injuries.
Technology
Students are required to have a device with internet connection
with a minimum of 8GB of RAM, microphone, video and speakers.
Work Placement Requirement
This course has been designed with 120 hours of student work placement with our assessors attending your nominated location to perform the work placement observations. If you do not have a nominated workplace for placement we can assist with a practical placement support at Assist Ability Australia a nationwide NDIS Disability Support provider. Reach out to our enrolment officer to assist you.
Certification
Students who successfully achieve competency will receive an NRT, Certificate and Statement of Attainment in:
